Celebrating the success of women working in hospitality and tourism

17th May 2019

On Thursday 16th May the BWS Women in Hospitality and Tourism Awards took place at the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh and we were delighted to be the headline sponsor of the event and host of table of our successful female customers. At Criton, we help accommodation providers put the guest at the heart of their operations; increasing guest satisfaction, driving revenue and operational efficiencies. And it was great to celebrate in Criton’s hometown the achievements of all the women working in the sector.

Welcoming guests to the awards ceremony, Julie Grieve, Founder and CEO of Criton, shared her top 3 tips for becoming a successful woman in hospitality: “Be yourself, speak up and get outside your comfort zone”.

Julie also added: “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor of the 2019 Business Women Scotland Women In Hospitality & Tourism Awards as we recognise and celebrate the achievements of the hard-working women across our industry.

Over 60% of those working in our sector are female and this evening’s event shines a spotlight on how so many of our colleagues are making an impact on a local and national level. Our heartfelt congratulations to each and every nominee and winner.”

Julie Grieve was particularly delighted to present the Hotelier of the Year award, which went to the talented Katrina Reynolds, Proprietor and Manager of Allanton Inn. Susan Russell, Head of Marketing at Criton, was thrilled to present the Tourism Business of the Year award, which went to Zakia Moulaoui, Founder and CEO of Invisible Cities.

We are also delighted that Emma Clark, Proprietor of Glenegedale House Hotel received the Front of House Star of the Year award and Iris Marhencke, Guest Relations Manager, won the Outstanding Achievement award. Iris is a legend in the industry, working tirelessly to ensure that the experience at Gleneagles is always one of surprise and delight.

With so many talented women attending the event, we had a fabulous night meeting old and new friends and celebrating all the nominees and winners of the 14 award categories.
